As I wrote in my last blog post- it’s not so easy to be grateful. Especially, when some days, everyone is acting so shitty. I mean we know we should be grateful because we have so much to be thankful for- not being in a war zone; not being in a flood or drought prone part of the world; not being in a mass terrorist attack. You get the drift. You’d have to be totally clueless not to realize how good we have it.
But, life at this juncture is challenging, even if it’s First World issues. First World issues don’t mean you don’t have pain and grief and anguish, it’s just different.
It’s difficult to be grateful:
In a world that according to the NY Times, “with a single good image of a person, it is possible in just half an hour to make a 60-second sex video of that person.”
Since it’s now 169 days that hostages have been held by Hamas.
While Ukrainians are being forced to wage a war with insufficient supplies because Republicans are quite simply assholes.
When a woman was allowed to “melt” into the family’s couch, dissolving into feces, ulcers and a whole list of physical horrors, and her parents, responsible for this torture, only receive 20 years in prison.
While Trump and Richard Sackler still walk the face of the earth.
While our town’s tax department says they sent us tax bills—but we never received them for 6 months- so we were in arrears.
BUT
The glass is still more than half full.
I’m grateful that:
A co-cat lover helps me give medicine to my cats when David is away.
I live in a place where the sunrise and sunset daily create art on the skyline and water.
Planning our Croatian summer travel is in full swing.
Every night, cats snuggle on my chest and peer deeply into my eyes as if to discern the meaning of life.
A friend has, for forty years, sent me chocolate bunny rabbits for Easter, even though we both have long forgotten how the tradition began.
Crème brûlée malted milk balls were invented.
I figured out how to put accent marks on my writing via keystrokes.
We’re able to pay our tax bill without difficulty.
April, David’s birthday month of Broadway and stand-up comedy performances, is almost upon us.
After all these years, I still can understand Hebrew language films.
I have the VERY BEST friends. And for every one of them, I give thanks at 2:30 pm. Mincha Moment.
